EXPERIENCE
Twenty-seven years in the data itself
Senior, hands-on data consultant. Independent since 2000, with engagements across government, justice, finance, energy, logistics, health, manufacturing and retail supply chains. I work in the data itself: profiling it, tracing it across systems, modelling it, and building the platform and reports on top — with checks at every layer so the figures hold when they reach the executive table.

How the work fits together
Data warehouse
Source data profiled before it is modelled. Views and dataflows built to a documented standard, with cleansing and exclusion rules applied consistently and figures reconciled back to source.
Power BI platform
Workspace architecture, service-principal refresh, deployment standards and a semantic model that carries the business definitions — one place where a measure means one thing.
Reports people open
Board packs, sales and operations reporting, and dashboards that read at a glance and drill down to the record behind any figure. Refreshed on schedule, so the report is ready when the meeting is.
Data quality monitoring runs through all three. Monitoring views watch the source continuously, and known gaps stay visible in the report, so the numbers can be trusted and the reason behind any exception is a click away. Everything is documented from source field to report calculation, with a data dictionary, so there is no discrepancy about what a figure means and the next person can pick it up.
selected engagements
County Court of Victoria
Senior BI Developer / Data Consultant
July 2025 – September 2026
Azure SQL · T-SQL · Power BI · dataflows · Tabular Editora
Criminal Division reporting platform over the court's case management system for the CEO and judges. Produced the reference documentation and lineage diagrams for the warehouse (four schemas, about 122 views) that the court now works from. Built the SQL view suite with a standard cleansing and exclusion pattern, service-principal dataflows, and a master semantic model (90 tables, 600+ measures). Established the court's data quality and definition register — each item with evidence, business owner and proposed rule — and monitoring views that keep the source under continuous watch. Delivered the Criminal Division, Koori Court, First Nations and CISP reports, including a unique-key design for accused individuals that makes recidivism measurable.
Linfox
Senior BI developer
April – December 2024
Snowflake · Power BI · Blue Yonder · SAP BusinessObjects · Crystal Reports
Migrated logistics reporting from BusinessObjects and Crystal Reports to Snowflake and Power BI for warehouse, fleet and freight operations serving retail and FMCG customers. Mapped each legacy dataset to its source and reconciled every legacy report against the new platform before cutover. Near-real-time warehouse reporting (inventory levels, stock flow, client billing on space utilisation); Digital Freight Network dashboards tracking delivery status end-to-end; fleet and safety reporting combining telematics with the transport management system; cold-chain monitoring with live temperature tracking for pharmaceutical and food deliveries.
NEOS Life
Senior BI developer, sole developer
January 2020 – December 2023
SQL Server · T-SQL · Power BI · dataflows · semantic models
Four years as the sole BI developer for a life insurance start-up. Rebuilt the SQL Server data warehouse — views, stored procedures, dataflows and semantic models — and built the company's sales and operations reporting from the ground up. Data monitoring reports capture data issues as they occur. Live dashboards on the office screens: applications needing attention within set timeframes, sales targets, bank reconciliation.

2017 – 2019
SAP HANA · SAP BW · Azure SQL · Hadoop · Tableau · Power BI
Reviewed the applications, databases, tools and practices used across AGL Energy Markets and the wider business to access, analyse and distribute information; defined the assessment criteria and delivered the recommendation for the database, data modelling and BI toolset. HOW I WORK
What you can expect
Scoped before it starts
An agreed scope, timeline and cost, in writing. Changes are variations, discussed before they happen. You'll never receive an invoice you haven't seen coming.
Readable at a glance, and to the record beneath
The story is clear on first look, and any figure drills down to the detail behind it. Metrics are defined once, in the data dictionary, and mean the same thing on every page.
No more complicated than it needs to be
The simplest design that holds up. Documented from source field to report calculation, so the next person — or your own team — can pick it up without reverse-engineering it.
Handed over properly
Documentation, a data dictionary, training where it's wanted, and a platform your people can maintain and extend.
Ready when the meeting is
Reports refresh on schedule. The board pack or the sales report is there at the push of a button, every time, without anyone assembling it by hand.
Reliable
Data quality monitoring is built into the platform, not bolted on afterwards. Source data is checked before it is modelled, figures reconcile at each layer, and known gaps stay visible rather than being quietly filtered out.
You don't have to manage it
I take the work from scoping through to handover, keep you informed as it goes, and bring you decisions, not problems. Definitional questions come to you with the evidence and a proposed answer.
